A Liquid Future’s Founder
Lizzie Murray
Founder/CEO
With a life spent living, travelling, and working around the world from childhood, communication became Lizzie’s greatest passion. She learned that relatable and creative ways to share knowledge from all involved parties developed in context led to innovation.
She specialises in the co-design of projects in situ with remote coastal communities, using surfing as the initial engagement tool to enable effective conservation action and community development.
Lizzie has an Honours degree from University College London in Political Science and is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce. She has visited over one hundred countries and is proficient in five languages. Lizzie spent a decade living and working with very reomote communities in Indonesia. Working with the UN she’s committed to impactful global change using passion as a starting-point.
A Liquid Future’s Origin
On a solo surf trip to G-Land, Indonesia Lizzie Murray realised that in a decade of visiting Indonesia she had never seen Indonesian girls surfing or swimming. Further research showed; more women and children die in tsunamis; Indonesian students repeatedly rank amongst the bottom seven countries globally for numeracy, literacy and science. Yet Indonesia was experiencing rapid economic growth and development, to even remoter islands, as transport and communication links quickly improved.
On a subsequent surf trip to the Mentawai Islands, Indonesia, the villagers of Katiet asked Lizzie to help them gain skills they wanted and needed to be a part of surf tourism developments happening on their shores and have a say in what happened. Lizzie decided to try, recognising that the passion and enthusiasm locals had for surfing and surf tourism could be used as a foundation from which to do so much more. She sold up, moved to Katiet and together they created A Liquid Future, a meeting of ideas, skills, knowledge and passion.
