TRANSFORMING SURFING PASSION INTO SUSTAINABLE IMPACT

We are a non-profit organisation co-created and registered in Indonesia and subsequently registered in Australia.

We use the popularity and increasing global reach of surfing and surf tourism as a vehicle to engage remote coastal communities to improve protection of marine ecosystems and stimulate sustainable development. We do this through co-designed education programmes and cost-effective technologies providing data to improve decision making from local to global.

OUR VISION

Eradication of poverty and protection of marine ecosystems across remote surfing communities worldwide.

WHY WE EXIST

  • Very low standards of education.

  • Lack of opportunities and support for girls in education and water sports.

  • Rapid population increase and economic development putting pressure on marine ecosystems and biodiversity.

  • Exclusion and lack of engagement of local communities living next to marine ecosystems.

  • Lack of awareness globally of the huge opportunity surfing presents to assist local communities and provide vital information to better understand and protect our oceans.

  • Less than 15% of Indonesia’s MPA’s are effectively managed, largely due to lack of local community engagement.

Surfing is the fastest growing water sport in the world

25-30 million surfers globally versus 6 million divers

OUR PURPOSE

Protection of marine ecosystems benefitting local communities living next to them.

HOW DO WE ACHIEVE THIS?

Using the passion people have for surfing as a platform from which to collaborate and bring innovation.

Programmes and initiatives are co-created in response to the wants and needs of communities.

Implementation by local teams and partners with local know-how.
